Other benefits or help – Attendance allowance can be paid in addition to almost any other benefit – eg state pension or pension credit. It is not affected by earnings. It is payable whether you work or not, and no matter how much you earn.

Attendance allowance is ignored as income for pension credit and housing benefit, and can lead to higher amounts of these being paid. See Box B.11 for how an award of attendance allowance may help you qualify for other types of help.

Attendance allowance may be taken into account in the local authority’s means test for care and support services (see Chapter 35(6) ).

You cannot get attendance allowance if you are entitled to disability living allowance (DLA), Scottish adult DLA, personal independence payment, adult disability payment or pension age disability payment.
