Appendix 4: National minimum wage
The National Minimum Wage Act 1998 provides that the minimum hourly rate of pay in any job should be:
•if you are aged 21 or over, £12.71. The government calls this the ‘national living wage’;
•if you are aged 18–20, £10.85;
•if you are aged 16 or 17, £8.00;
•if you are in the first year of employment or are under 19, and you are employed under a contract of apprenticeship (or treated as if you are), £8.00.
