Your liability when you contacted the supplier online
You can get quotes, negotiate and set up an electricity supply account online with most suppliers. This is commonly achieved through registering your details with a supplier and often the contracted terms and conditions are expressly confirmed in a durable medium, such as an email or online account. Access to the express contract and terms and conditions are also often available through the same, or similar mediums. In these situations, it is often clear exactly who is requesting the supply and acknowledgment of liability. Usually, payment is requested from the person who registered their details with the supplier.
When a dispute arises, parties should seek to resolve it between themselves. Alternatively, you can raise a formal complaint through the supplier’s internal complaints procedure. If this is unsuccessful, the dispute may be referred to the Energy Ombudsman for determination (see here).
