Qualifying criteria
There are several qualifying criteria an applicant must meet for MAP. These include the following.1s2(2) B(S)A 2016
    The applicant has been assessed by the common financial tool (CFT) as requiring to make no debtor’s contribution.
    The applicant has been in receipt of payments, of a kind prescribed, for at least six months ending with the day on which the debtor application is made.
    The total of the debts (including interest) on the application date is not more than £25,000. There is no minimum amount.
    The total value of the debtor’s assets (leaving out of account any liabilities) on the application date does not exceed £2,000.
    The applicant has no single asset with a value over £1,000.
    The applicant does not own land.
    The debtor has been granted a certificate for sequestration of the debtor’s estate.
    In the 10 years before the application is made (or such other prescribed period), no award of sequestration (MAP) has been made against the applicant.
    In the five years before the application is made, no award of sequestration has been made against the debtor in pursuance:
      an application made by the debtor other than by virtue of this subsection; or
      a petition.
