The carer premium can be awarded in addition to any of the other premiums covered in this chapter. It is £45.60 a week for each person who qualifies. You qualify for a carer premium if you or your partner are paid carer’s allowance or carer support payment (CSP) or have an underlying entitlement to either (eg you are entitled to carer’s allowance or CSP but it cannot be paid because of the overlapping benefits rule – see Chapter 8(6)).

Eight-week extension – The carer premium can continue to be paid for eight weeks after the death of the person you have cared for. In other cases, the carer premium can continue for eight weeks after you stop getting carer’s allowance or CSP or lose an underlying entitlement to it.
