Some of the help depends on you getting carer’s allowance or, in Scotland, carer support payment (see Chapter 8). See Chapter 30(9) and Box G.10 in that chapter for details of the council tax discount scheme as it affects carers caring in their own home. Other help depends on your circumstances – eg whether you have given up work, have a low income or have a disability yourself. See the benefits checklist for other benefits you may be able to claim.
