Your universal credit award is reduced by the amount of your carer’s allowance. However, you will get an extra amount included in the award: the ‘carer amount’ (£198.31 a month) (see Chapter 15(7)).

If you get carer’s allowance, you will not need to look for work, be available for work or attend work-focused interviews, as you will be accepted as having ‘regular and substantial caring responsibilities for a severely disabled person’ (see Box E.4).
