Key facts
•Your entitlement to universal credit (UC) and how much you get depends on your income.
•Your own income counts and, if you are a member of a couple, your partner’s income also counts.
•Your earnings from employment and self-employment are taken into account on a monthly basis over each ‘assessment period’.
•If earnings from self-employment are low, your UC award may be assessed on more earnings than you get, called the ‘minimum income floor’.
•Certain other kinds of income are also taken into account.
