1. Child benefit and guardian’s allowance
When your child is away at school, your child benefit – and guardian’s allowance if you get it – continues to be paid.1ss77(5) and 143(3)(a) and (c) SSCBA 1992; regs 9 and 10 CB Regs. Any day your child is away from home solely for the purpose of receiving education is disregarded. Any time your child is away from home in residential accommodation solely because of their disability or to prevent deterioration in their health is disregarded for up to 84 days and beyond 84 days provided you regularly incur expenditure on the child.
