Section 98, or ‘temporary’ support (see here), is intended for asylum seekers who appear to the Home Office to be destitute and require short-term accommodation while a section 95 application is being processed. It is generally provided in a full-board Home Office hostel. However, in some locations, the accommodation is self-catering and cash is provided to buy food (see here).
