8. Retirement pensions
Retirement pensions, other than a category D retirement pension, do not have any residence or presence conditions. They can be paid without time limit, whether or not you are present in Great Britain. However, going abroad can mean you are not paid the annual uprating, can be relevant to decisions on deferring your retirement and can prevent you from ‘de-retiring’ while you are abroad (see here).1s113 SSCBA 1992; reg 4(1) SSB(PA) Regs
To be entitled to a category D retirement pension, you must have been:2Reg 10 SS(WB&RP) Regs
    •resident in Great Britain for at least 10 years in any continuous period of 20 years ending on or after your 80th birthday; and
    •ordinarily resident (see here) in Great Britain on either:
      ◦your 80th birthday; or
      ◦the date on which you claimed the category D pension, if later.
