8. Housing costs run-on
When you (or your partner) return to work or increase your hours and so count as being in full-time paid work, you no longer qualify for income support (IS), income-based jobseeker’s allowance (JSA) or income-related employment and support allowance (ESA). However, if you qualify for housing costs run-on, you are paid IS for your housing costs for the first four weeks after you go into full-time paid work, even if the benefit you were claiming was income-based JSA or income-related ESA. Note:
    •You do not have to make a claim to qualify for housing costs run-on; it is paid automatically.1Reg 3(h) SS(C&P) Regs However, you must let the DWP know you are starting full-time paid work.
    •Housing costs run-on is a payment of IS. Therefore:
      ◦it is not taxable; and
      ◦it is included in the benefit cap (see here); and
      ◦you might get health benefits (see Chapter 31) and education benefits, such as free school lunches (see here).
