Key facts
    •Universal credit (UC) has been introduced nationwide for new claimants.
    •When you come under the UC system, UC replaces most other means-tested benefits and tax credits.
    •Current claimants of means-tested benefits and tax credits do not automatically come under the UC system, but can transfer to UC via ‘natural migration’ – eg, by claiming UC after a change of circumstances, or otherwise deciding to claim UC.
    •Current claimants of means-tested benefits and tax credits will be transferred to UC under the ‘managed migration’ process started by the DWP. The DWP began transferring a small number of cases under this process in early 2022. The number of people transferred is expected to increase during 2022.
