Prepayment certificates
Prepayment certificates are available in England and can save you money if you are likely to need a lot of prescriptions, but are not exempt from paying for them. You do not have to pay any further charges for prescriptions for the duration of the certificate, regardless of how many are required.
1Reg 9 NHS(CDA) RegsA three-month certificate saves money if you need four or more items in the three-month period, while a 12-month certificate saves money if you require more than 12 prescriptions in a year. Apply on line or at certain pharmacies. Applications can also be made by telephone on 0300 330 1341. The cost of 12-month certificates can be split over 10 direct debit instalments.
