6. Other forms of support
Asylum support – If you (or someone you are a dependant of) are aged 18 or over, have an outstanding asylum claim or appeal (or, in limited circumstances, if these have been refused) and are destitute, you may be able to get asylum support (accommodation and/or subsistence payments). Get advice for details (see Box O.2 in Chapter 56).
Help from social care – You may be eligible for assistance from your local authority social care department (see Chapter 38). You may be entitled to accommodation and/or other assistance from the authority, particularly if you are an unaccompanied child aged under 18 or you have a dependent child, or you have needs beyond destitution (eg due to your age or disability). Remember that information is exchanged between social care departments and the Home Office. Get independent advice before you apply and if you are refused assistance.
