New claims for disability living allowance (DLA) can only be made for children under 16. Disabled people aged between 16 and pension age can claim personal independence payment (PIP) (see
Chapter 35). When a child who gets DLA turns 16, s/he is usually invited to claim PIP (see
here).
If you are aged 16 or over but were under 65 on 8 April 2013 and were already getting DLA, you will be invited to claim PIP (see
here).
