Key facts
    •Universal credit (UC) has now been introduced nationwide for new claimants.
    •When you come under the UC system, UC replaces most other means-tested benefits and tax credits.
    •Current claimants of means-tested benefits and tax credits do not automatically come under the UC system, but can transfer to UC via ‘natural migration’– eg, by claiming UC after a change of circumstances.
    •At some point, ‘managed migration’ will be introduced, under which current claimants of means-tested benefits will transfer to UC in a process started by the DWP. However, testing of this process has been paused and it is not confirmed when it will be introduced.
