8. The points-based system
On 2 December 2020, the Home Office introduced a new points-based system for people who wish to work or study in the UK. It appears to be truly points-based with some attributes attracting ‘tradable’ points.
The categories are named:
    •student visa;
    •skilled worker route;
    •global talent route;
    •graduate route (from summer 2021);
    •intra-company transfer;
    •other:
      ◦start-up and innovators;
      ◦health and care visa;
      ◦creative route;
      ◦sporting route;
      ◦seasonal workers;
      ◦Youth Mobility Scheme.
