Maintenance grant
You are entitled to a maintenance grant if your household income is less than £59,200. If your household income is £25,000 or less or you are a care leaver, the maximum grant you can get is £5,000 pro rata by intensity of study. If your household income exceeds £25,000, your grant is calculated by subtracting £1 for every £6.84 of household income above £25,000 from the maximum £5,000. The remaining amount is then multiplied by the intensity of study to give the pro-rata amount.
1Reg 47 E(SS)(W) RegsIf you are entitled to claim benefits as a part-time student, you should claim the maintenance grant as a special support payment (see
here). This does not affect the amount you receive, but ensures it is not taken into account as income when calculating your benefit entitlement.
