The National Minimum Wage Act
This Act provides that the minimum hourly rate of pay in any job should be:
•if you are aged 25 or over, £8.72. The government calls this the ‘national living wage’;
•if you are aged 21–24, £8.20;
•if you are aged 18–20, £6.45;
•if you are under age 18 and not of compulsory school age, £4.55;
•if you are in the first year of employment or are under 19, and you are employed under a contract of apprenticeship (or treated as if you are), £4.15.
