1. Introduction
Whether or not you have a right to reside depends on your nationality, immigration status and your other particular circumstances, and also on the nationality, immigration status and other circumstances of your family members and certain people for whom you care. You may have more than one right of residence, or you may not have any.
Any residence right is sufficient to satisfy the right to reside requirement, unless it is specifically excluded for the particular benefit or tax credit you want to claim (see

here).
The residence rights of some people are more complicated than others. In general, i
f you are a European Economic Area (EEA) national (see
here), or a family member or primary carer of an EEA national, your residence rights are more complex. The majority of this chapter therefore covers the rights of these groups.
