Chapter 7: People subject to immigration control
This chapter covers:
1. Introduction (next)
2. The effect of immigration status on benefits and tax credits (
here)
3. Who is a ‘person subject to immigration control’ (
here)
You should check this chapter, together with
Chapter 8, if you, your partner and children are
not all European Economic Area (EEA), or British nationals (see
here). If you, your partner and children are all EEA (or British) nationals, until 31 December 2020, the rules in these two chapters do not apply to you. However, if you or your partner or child are an EEA national and arrived in the UK after that date, get advice because, at the time of writing, the government’s intention was to align the benefit rules for EEA nationals arriving in the UK from 1 January 2021 with those of non-EEA nationals, but no details were available.
If you, your partner, your parent or your child have applied for asylum in the UK, you should also check
Chapter 9.
