Independent advice and representation
If you want advice or information on a benefit or tax credit issue, the following may be able to assist. See
https://advicelocal.uk for details of resources in your area.
•Citizens Advice. You can find out where your local office is from the Citizens Advice website at www.citizensadvice.org.uk (England and Wales) or
www.cas.org.uk (Scotland).
•Other independent advice centres.
•Local authority welfare rights services.
•Local organisations for particular groups of claimants may offer help. For instance, there are unemployed centres, pensioners’ groups and centres for people with disabilities.
•In England and Wales, Civil Legal Advice (tel: 0345 345 4345 or
www.gov.uk/civil-legal-advice). In Scotland, Scottish Legal Aid Board (tel: 0131 226 7061 or
www.slab.org.uk).
Note: help with welfare benefits in England and Wales is limited to appeals in the Upper Tribunal and higher courts.
