This chapter covers the work-related responsibilities you may have in order to get income support (IS), jobseeker’s allowance (JSA), employment and support allowance (ESA) and carer’s allowance. For the jobseeking conditions for JSA, see Chapter 48. If you come under the universal credit (UC) system, including if you are claiming contribution-based JSA or contributory ESA under the UC system, see Chapter 46. For your responsibilities for incapacity benefit and severe disablement allowance, or if you are still claiming IS on the basis of incapacity for work, see Chapter 46 in the 2017/18 edition of this Handbook.
