3. People included in the claim
You claim state pension for yourself. You do not get an increase in your state pension for an adult dependant or your child(ren).
If you are entitled to an ‘old’ retirement pension and already have an increase included for a child, you can continue to be paid the increase in certain circumstances. See Chapter 33 of the 2012/13 edition of this Handbook for details of who continues to qualify for an increase. You do not get the increase for your child if your partner’s earnings are at or above the earnings limit. In 2023/24, this is £280 a week for the first child, increased by £37 for each subsequent child. If you qualify, you are paid £8 a week for the eldest child for whom child benefit is also paid, and £11.35 a week for each subsequent child. Adult dependency increases were abolished in April 2020.
